Thanks, Oprah

For as long as I can remember, Oprah has been a part of my life. In elementary school, I remember curling up on the couch after a long day and watching Oprah. Back then, 4 pm was Oprah time. Of course, as I've gotten older, the "workin' world" takes over and 4 pm is crunch time — not Oprah time. However, I did tune-in to her final show yesterday and it made me sad. There's something about her voice (as weird as it may sound) that is so comforting and takes me back to the good ole days.

If you missed it, you must watch this short clip from her final show. What a powerful message for us all: "What I know for sure — we all are called and everybody has a calling. And our main job in life is to figure out what that calling is, and get about the business of doing it."

Farewell, Oprah. Thanks for ALL you have taught us. Weekdays at 4 pm will never be the same without you.

Around the House

OFFICE UPDATE:
Nailheads are finally done! I bought the nailheads at a local fabric store (Cotton Capers). They are originally from D.A.D.S. and the perfect size and color. For only 5 cents each, this custom touch cost me less than $15. Even though it was tedious to do, it was very worth it if you ask me! Click here to see Home Office Round 1 and Round 2 posts. We've come a long way!

I recently had this slipcover made for our sofa. At first, I was hesitant to go with the stark white, but I know I can bleach it if when an accident occurs!

And you know how I love bartering! While Jackie was here measuring the sofa, she mentioned she needed new business cards. I told her that I was a graphic designer, and one thing led to another. So, while she was measuring I designed these little cards, and she left with a CD ready to take to a printing shop. I was quite excited about this exchange, so I had to share that tid-bit of info :) Give Jackie a call if you live around the Mobile area. She is wonderful to work with and did such a great job!
I bought the fabric at Hobby Lobby (yes, HOBBY LOBBY). It is white duck and cost a whopping $7.99/yd. Then, I printed off this coupon, which is available every other week. See below for my custom slipcover on a budget!
Lovin' my new Stray Dog lamp!! It's currently in a little reading corner in our bedroom. The striped shade makes me happy every time I walk into the room.
And finally, here's a shot of our herb garden's growth. Click here to see the before shots...
And Believe me, there are many other rooms in our house that are not "blog worthy" — these are just a few updates we've done recently! :)  Have a wonderful day!!

High Times in Chattanooga

I was thrilled to see my hometown featured in the June/July issue of Garden & Gun. Chattanooga is one of the most beautiful, up-and-coming towns, and is truly "a model of urban renewal." I know I may be a little biased, but Chattanooga is one of the best places in the world!

Every time I come home I try to run the Walnut Street Bridge, AKA "The Walking Bridge." It is without a doubt, one of my favorite places in Chattanooga.

And on a random note, it's the little things in life that matter the most. My sweet husband surprised me with these flowers last week to celebrate my new, full-time freelance design business. Wasn't that so thoughtful of him? Now that I'll be spending more time at home, I think I'll need fresh flowers around all the time! :)

Coastal Charm

I adore this Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina home, which was featured in Southern Living. I swear I'm hearing waves after looking at all those breezy porches! Ahhh..that swinging daybed?! That's where I want to be right NOW! And that kitchen — could it be more perfect? I don't think so. For more on this coastal home, head over to Southern Living.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)
