My Daily Reminders

Yesterday morning I was drinking coffee and talking to my mom on the phone and she made a comment about missing my "Wednesday Words of Wisdom" posts. I guess I have been a slacker, but I quickly reminded her that she is the only person who reads this anyway! So, I'll make her happy and humor myself with a long post...

I can't tell you the last time I sat down and had the desire to challenge my sleepy, overworked brain. BUT, this morning I had the urge to write. I haven't had that strong desire to write in a long time, and I miss just sitting down and letting my thoughts run wild on paper — whether they make sense or not. I swear I'm convinced that writing is so good for you, and I'm not just saying that because my dad is an English professor.

I swear I use to be a decent writer (emphasis on the past tense and decent, not good). Like I said, my dad teaches English and runs the creative writing center at McCallie School in Chattanooga. He has a natural way with words — always has, always will. {See this post to read more about my precious daddy. That's us before he walked me down the aisle. I'm definitely a daddy's girl and love him more than words can say.}

But, writing does run in the family, and my Dad comes from a long history of literary figures. His stepmother, Catherine Marshall, (who raised him and he still refers to as "mom") was a New York Times best-selling author, and his father, Leonard LeSourd, was also a writer and the editor of Guidepost magazine for 28 years. Excuse my bragging, but I'm just proud of my talented grandparents! That being said, our family loves to write and I do too, but I'm having a hard time getting back into the groove. I was an english minor (art major) at Ole Miss, but maybe I shouldn't admit that as you count my 1,000,000 grammar mistakes. However, this blog writing thing is different and anything goes, right? That's what I keep telling myself anyway...

My passion for writing (and design of course) was what motivated me to start this blog — all in high hopes to dive into what I love. But, the less you practice the worse you become. And so here I am, struggling to make sense of my thoughts...but bare with me Mom, I promise I will relearn how to do this...
So, as I was going through my old blog posts (which I haven't done in forever) I was amazed that my What a Run! post was this exact time last year. I was just about (if not already) pregnant, and was going through the transition of starting my own business and working 100% from home. I was super-stressed and went on a run, and was reminded of what matters in life. So I decided to make a daily reminder list that I posted by my desk.

Anyways, here I am AGAIN seeking perspective. I guess that's just how life goes. Don't we all do that? We get caught up in own little own bubble, which can seem all-consuming and SO important, but in actuality, it is so small and trivial.

I decided to make a new daily list for 2012, and I wanted to share this with you. My life has changed quite a bit in the past year (with the most amazing gift in the world, motherhood), but the important things don't seem to shift too much...other than dancing with Calder in the kitchen of course!

If only I could actually DO the things on my daily reminder list, I would be set. For now, I will pin this up beside my computer and hope to do better this year!

And I'll end with this sweet photo Janie Long took of us last month. More to come later, but she did an amazing job and this picture makes me so happy and thankful. God is so, so good. That I know for sure.
